The first-ever Civo Hackathon is an initiative to bring together developers, architects, experts, and students from across the globe to develop innovative Kubernetes projects on Civo. It provides a learning experience towards hosting applications on Kubernetes while exploiting the blazing fast speed and the simplicity of Civo’s Kubernetes platform.
We invite everyone to join the Civo Community and put their skills into action. Whether you are a beginner or an industry expert, join us between 12th and 14th November and experience Kubernetes through Civo. There are exciting prizes to be won worth $7800+ and a wealth of knowledge to be shared! What’s more? The top three teams get Swag bundles worth $100 each and are invited for a (YT talk or Twitter shoutout) on Civo’s social media channels.

Workshops to be conducted on Civo YouTube
- Intro to Kubernetes: In this session, Kunal and Alistair will give you an introduction to containers with a hands-on demo of Kubernetes. You'll learn about the Kubernetes architecture, some important commands, and also how to containerize your applications. We'll also have an introduction to containerd.
- K3s vs K8s: Kai, developer advocate at Civo will be sharing with us how K3s by Rancher Labs differ from regular Kubernetes (k8s).
- Intro to Civo platform: Anais, SRE at Civo will be diving into the Civo platform in this hands-on demo. This session will get you started with the Civo platform, from signing up to launching your first cluster. In addition to that, adding applications from the Civo marketplace, working with the CLI and more.
- Running an application on Civo Kubernetes: Here you will run how to host your applications on Civo!
- Intro to Kubernetes monitoring: Saiyam, director at Civo, will be giving an introduction to Kubernetes monitoring for beginners.

Requirements
Project Submission
- All teams should have a team name, and be registered with Devpost.
- Use of Civo (either Kubernetes or Compute) is mandatory to be eligible for the prizes. Check the resources section to get started.
- The Devpost team page listing should have the following:
- Short abstract of the project
- The hackathon theme and category if applicable
- The development tools used to build the project
- SDKs used in the project
- Any libraries used in the project
- A link to the team Github repository
- A link to a video of a screen capture of the application on Youtube (max 2 mins).
- All projects must be created during the hackathon period itself.
- All projects should be submitted to the hackathon GitHub account before the deadline. Failure to submit will result in disqualification. Should commit regularly throughout the hackathon to the team repository. Team repositories that are committed in the entirety near the close of the hackathon, will be examined and the team could be disqualified for a rules violation. A single GitHub commit made near the end of the hackathon will draw the suspicion that the work was not completed at the hackathon.
- All projects submissions will be randomly code-reviewed. Applications will be spot-checked by code reviewers. All the projects selected by the judges as finalists will be code reviewed to confirm that the code is original work created at the hackathon and all components and assets conform to the licenses allowed in these rules.

Is the project functional and easy to operate for the target demographic (user friendliness) or is it needlessly complex? Is the solution viable and effective in addressing the problem statement? Does it reflect the quality of the outcome? -
Clarity
Is the team able to convey their ideas in a way understandable to the audience? Are the topics accessible to the audience? -
Growth of knowledge
